All artworks for which a frame will be made are first subjected to a critical examination. If necessary your artwork is cleaned, restored and/or provided with a new varnish layer. We work together with highly competent conservators, both in the field of oil paintings and works on paper. Contact us to discuss your wishes.
GILDED AND COLOURS
In the workplace of our frame shop your frame is made to measure, in the right type of wood. You can choose between maple, cherry, walnut, beech and oak (and more). After careful preparation the frame is then chalked, coloured, gilded and polished if necessary. It is the colouring, chalking, gilding (in gold and white gold) and finding the right basis (base colour) in particular which require a high level of craftsmanship, experience and an accurate eye.
on paper
After, restoration, cleaning and removal of old glue residues, your artwork on paper is attached to an acid-free base. A thin layer of home-made wheat paste is the natural base for adhesion of the ends (hairs) of the Japanese paper. Only after the paste has been applied, your artwork is attached to an acid-free base. In combination with a good passe-partout your work will be excellently protected against any deteriorations or damages.
OIL PAINTINGS
Some oil paintings are well suited for framing with the frame separate from the painting. Other pieces are less suited for this. Depending on size, quality and image we will decide together with you on the best way to frame the piece.
photography
Framing photographs is a distinct matter and can be implemented in various ways. Leave the choice of the best base and best suited frame for your photo work to our experienced staff. This applies to both the professional photographer and the private person.
